FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
3 Simple Steps to a Scale-Free Home
No plumbing experience or special tools required.
1. Find Your Pipe
The Scalewatcher works on copper, plastic, steel or lead pipes. You only need a 10 cm (4 inches) section of straight pipe.
- Best Spot: Look for your main incoming cold water pipe (usually near your inside stopcock valve). Fitting it here protects your whole house.
- Alternative Spot: If the main pipe is hidden, fit it onto the pipe supplying your hot water heater or cold water tank. This still protects your hot water system, where most scale forms.
- Got Steel or Lead Pipes? Please call our friendly team for quick advice before ordering to ensure you get the right size.
2. Mount the Box
You can mount the Scalewatcher box in any direction—upright, sideways, or diagonally.
- Wall Placement: Choose a firm wall near your chosen pipe. The box can sit up to 1 metre away from the pipe.
- Power Supply: Make sure there is a standard plug socket within 3 metres. Need a longer reach? Contact us to order an extended power cable.
- Easy Hanging: Use the screws provided in your kit. The box simply slots onto them using the brackets on the back or sides.
3. Wrap the Wire
The wire coil does all the work, and it can be wrapped around vertical, horizontal, or diagonal pipes.
- Wrap It: Wrap the wire tightly around the pipe between 10 and 12 times. Secure each end tightly with the included zip ties.
- Splitting Pipes? If your pipe splits into two sections before you can mount the unit, you can wrap the single wire across both pipes to treat them simultaneously.
- Plug It In: Strip a tiny bit of plastic off the wire ends to reveal the bare metal. Push down the buttons on the Scalewatcher box and insert the wires. Note: It does not matter which wire goes into which button.
- Turn It On: Plug the unit into the wall socket.
Reading the Lights
- Red Light: The unit has power.
- Green Light: The system is working and protecting your home.
- Important: Leave the unit plugged in and switched on 24/7 for continuous scale protection. It uses minimal electricity.
